The latest version of Cetim Cobra software introduces major improvements in bolted joint calculation, enabling engineers to design and verify controlled tightening assemblies with greater accuracy and reliability
A Reference Software for Bolted Joint Calculation
Cetim Cobra is an intuitive bolted joint design software based on analytical calculations compliant with NF E25-030-2, addressing assemblies subjected to mechanical and thermal loads. It is primarily intended for design engineers, but more broadly for anyone involved in bolted joint dimensioning, specification or verification of tightening conditions.
Its key strength lies in its usability: it facilitates data input, enables users to verify data consistency both visually and by analysing potential incompatibilities, and supports users through integrated databases. Calculations are performed within seconds, delivering results aligned with applicable standards.

A new torque-angle tightening model for improved accuracy
One of the main innovations of this new version is a significantly improved analytical model for torque-angle tightening, developed by Cetim and validated through experimental testing in collaboration with industrial partners, including Stellantis.
Torque-controlled tightening, still widely used, is highly dependent on friction conditions, leading to significant dispersion in preload for a given tightening specification. The torque-angle tightening method helps reduce this dispersion: “introducing an angular component, which is no longer dependent on friction, makes it possible to drastically reduce this variability, resulting in a much more precise tightening, which is particularly valuable for critical applications,” explains Mathieu Buard, Cetim Cobra technical expert.
Until now, no accurate analytical method was available to determine the correct tightening settings. This limitation is addressed by the new version: “The previous approach only provided a rough estimation. This new model allows for the calculation of an angle much closer to real behaviour, and therefore a more accurate definition of the settings to be applied upstream before testing.” These experimental tests can, of course, be carried out at Cetim.
